Rehome A Pet

Having serious pet issues or did you find a stray?

We recommend that you first explore the resources that Acadiana has to help you overcome any obstacle you may be encountering. SpayNation offers low cost spay/neuter and vaccinations for personal pets as well as stray and feral animals. Please visit their website for more information.

In addition Best Friends Animal Society’s ‘How to Find Homes for Homeless Pets’ is a wonderful resource for pet owners trying to re-home their pet or what to do when you find a stray.

If you have lost or found a pet then please contact your local animal control facility first. (Lafayette Animal Control posts reports of lost and found animals.) Then post pictures and information on the ‘Lost and Found Pets Acadiana’ Facebook page.

After you have explored these options and others in the area, you can send us information about your pet or the animal that you found. Please include a picture of the animal, approximate age, health status, and any biographical information about the animal, i.e. the animal’s personality. This information will then be passed onto our Dog or Cat Coordinators to determine whether or not we have space to intake this animal. It does require some work on your end but we will do what we can to help you re-home your pet so that the animal does not have to enter a shelter.

We will work together with you to determine and implement the best solution for you and your pet, but we are a nonprofit organization with limited staff working with our volunteers and limited funding to help owners re-home their pets.
