Help Pets

& People

Acadiana Animal Aid has limited space for owned and stray animals. Because of the high demand for space, there may be a waiting period before an animal can be accepted into our shelter. Please note, Acadiana Animal Aid accepts pets if we have space and by appointment only. Please scroll to the form at the bottom for assistance.

Found A Pet? Find The Owners

Reuniting a lost pet with its owners should be the very first step when encountering a stray animal. We recommend going through all of the steps below, putting any amount of effort into reunification before rehoming or surrendering a found animal.

Report the found pet and search Petco’s Love Lost national database. Notify your local parish shelter, surrounding vet clinics and use resources such as Pawboost and Nextdoor apps to instantly spread local awareness and reach a wider audience.

Scan the pet for a microchip for FREE at any veterinary office, including 24hr emergency clinics, or your nearest local shelter. Acadiana Animal Aid also offers this service.

Alert the community by searching on foot or in the car to post flyers and knock on any homes or businesses in the surrounding area that the animal was found. The majority of stray animals are found within a couple miles of their home.

Share your Petco Love Lost flyer on social platforms, including local lost and found pets Facebook groups.
