Black dog syndrome is when dogs with black coats are perceived to be more often overlooked in the shelter, leading to extended length of stay in care despite most of them having spectacular personalities! We have a LOT of black dogs in our care right now who would make wonderful pets but have just missed out on opportunities because a dog with more striking colors gets chosen first.
